Banana - Basjoo

Uses: Leaves for grilling fish and tamales
Acquired: 2004
How started:

Basjoo Banana is a permanent resident in my outdoor garden. Everything above ground is killed each winter, but a new stand pops up in the spring when it warms up.

This banana tree will never produce fruit. I grow it for looks and for leaves that can be used in cooking, similar to parchment paper. WHen I was in India for business, I stopped at a truckstop for a meal. The vegetarian food was laddled onto a banana leaf. One of the best meals I have eaten.
