How started: Seedling

Seedling from Raintree Nursery. Has not fruited yet in Edmonds. An evergreen tree from Chile. Mature plants develop smooth, cinnamon color bark, much like that of madrone that peels back to reveal white to pink under bark. Its fruit is appreciated in Chile and Argentina and its flowers are important for honey production. The fruit is blue-black with translucent flesh. One blogger described the flavor of the fruit this way: "... sweet, spritely, and resinous, rather like other Myrtaceous fruits, but also rather blueberry-like. "
